What is sports massage?
A focused, deeper soft-tissue treatment for muscles and fascia. We use techniques such as effleurage, deeper pressure, trigger-point work and stretching to reduce tension, ease soreness and improve mobility. Massage is most effective as part of a wider rehab or training plan, not a standalone “fix”.
Who benefits from sports massage
Active people, gym-goers, runners and team-sport athletes who want help with tightness, recovery between sessions, or preparation for higher training loads. It’s also useful during rehab blocks for overuse issues like calf/Achilles or shoulder/rotator-cuff irritation.
Evidence suggests sports massage can help flexibility and post-exercise soreness for some people.

What to expect from a sports massage

We’ll keep it targeted and comfortable. At the heart of sports massage is effective pressure without unnecessary pain.
-
Quick check-in: what’s tight, sore or limiting training.
-
Warm-up strokes: to prepare tissues before deeper work.
-
Deep tissue & trigger-point techniques: to relieve focal tension and improve muscle feel.
-
Stretching / mobility as needed: passive or active release to improve range.
-
Finish & aftercare: simple guidance on hydration, easy movement, and how to pair massage with your programme.
How it fits with physiotherapy
Sports massage supports the active parts of your plan. By targeting strength, control and graded loading, a sports massage will help you move more comfortably. Your physio will advise how often to book and when to switch focus back to exercise progression.

Please tell us about any medical conditions, pregnancy, blood-thinning medication, recent injury or skin issues. If massage isn’t appropriate, we’ll advise alternatives and adjust your plan.
