Acupuncture

Experience the benefits of acupuncture delivered by specially trained physiotherapists. We combine traditional techniques with modern clinical practice to support pain relief, ease muscle tension, and improve movement.

Duration: 40 minutes

Cost: £50

What is acupuncture?

A safe, minimally invasive technique using fine, sterile needles at specific points to help calm pain, reduce muscle guarding, and promote recovery. At MotionWorks we use medical acupuncture/dry needling principles as part of a wider physiotherapy plan.

Fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points to calm sensitive tissues and the nervous system. This can reduce muscle guarding, ease pain, and improve movement so you can get more from your rehab. Most people feel a brief, dull ache or a light “twitch” as the needle meets the target area, then a sense of release. We work within your comfort. Tell us if anything feels too strong and we’ll adjust.

Who benefits from acupuncture

People with persistent or activity-related muscle and joint pain who want a non-drug option alongside rehab. Common examples include neck pain and tension-type headaches, shoulder/rotator cuff irritation, low back pain, knee osteoarthritis, and calf/Achilles tightness.

What to expect from acupuncture

Physiotherapy motionworks Accupuncture

We’ll keep everything clear, comfortable, and tailored to you. You are under no pressure to continue if it doesn’t feel right.

  • Quick check-in: where you’re sore, how symptoms behave, and your goals.

  • Targeted needling: selected points and/or trigger points related to your symptoms.

  • Gentle stimulation: needles may be left for several minutes or gently stimulated.

  • Supportive techniques: light manual therapy or mobility work where helpful.

  • Plan for the week: simple guidance on activity, pacing, and how this fits with your exercises.

How it fits with physiotherapy

Acupuncture can settle symptoms so you can move better in rehab. Your physio will pair needling with the right strength and mobility work, and fade it out as you progress to active loading.
